Govt. Announces Free Wheat Flour under ‘Ramadan Package’ for Poor

Following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s announcement on Tuesday, just a few weeks before the start of the holy month of Ramadan, that the poor would receive free wheat flour as part of the “Ramadan Package,” the government has finally decided to offer some relief to the nation who are suffering from high inflation. According to sources, the fasting month would reportedly start on March 23^rd or 24^th.

 

Prime Minister’s Remarks

PM Shehbaz while chairing a review meeting in Islamabad, declared that free flour would be supplied to the needy people of Punjab in the first phase under the special Ramadan Package. Also, he instructed the concerned authorities to develop a plan as soon as possible to give needy families the cargo free flour.

According to him, the federal government will provide the provinces their full assistance in order to help them implement the Ramadan Package in a manner similar to how Punjab did it.

The package is the first of its kind and is designed to help the underprivileged group in society. The Punjab Chief Secretary, Zahid Akhtar Zaman, and the Finance Secretary, Mujahid Sherdil, provided the Prime Minister with an update on the Ramadan Package. In a meeting where Mohsin Raza Naqvi, the Interim Chief Minister of Punjab, the Secretary of Food, and other senior officials were also present.

Accessibility to Food Sources

PM Shehbaz gave the authorities directives on February 13 to ensure the ongoing supply of food throughout the country and to take action against hoarders.

Additionally, he had ordered to form special committees to improve the supply chain and keep an eye on the prices of essential commodities. He claimed that the nation has plenty of necessities, especially wheat.

In the upcoming review session, the Prime Minister had requested that the provinces and administrative units present a comprehensive plan on “Sasta Ramadan Bazaars” and the provision of essential goods at low prices during the holy month of fasting.
