NADRA Launches Digital Power of Attorney Service for Overseas Pakistanis

In a significant move to address the challenges faced by overseas Pakistanis in physically reaching the nearest Pakistani mission abroad, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has taken a major step forward by introducing a user-friendly digital Power of Attorney (PoA) service. This innovative initiative is poised to streamline and simplify the process for granting power of attorney to individuals residing in Pakistan, ultimately providing a seamless and efficient experience for overseas Pakistanis.

Streamlining the Process

Overseas Pakistanis holding a valid National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP), Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC), or Pakistan Origin Card (POC) can now empower any person in Pakistan through a straightforward six-step online process. This digital transformation is a testament to NADRA’s commitment to harness technology for the benefit of the Pakistani diaspora.

Essential Criteria for Applicants

Before initiating the online power of attorney application, applicants must meet certain criteria, chief among them being an overseas Pakistani. Valid identity documents, such as CNIC/NICOP/POC for the executor(s), witnesses, and attorney, are indispensable. Additionally, applicants need to provide a valid email address, contact number, and mailing address outside of Pakistan.

Biometric data, comprising the best four fingers of the executor(s) and two witnesses, is a crucial part of the process. Online fee payment through a credit or debit card is required for the application to proceed. To complete the application, applicants must also submit a scanned copy of the original Power of Attorney, complete with signatures, thumb impressions, and a photo of the executant affixed.

Accuracy is Key

It is imperative for applicants to provide accurate details about the attorney and witnesses. For Power of Attorney attestation, foreigners are advised to physically visit the relevant Pakistani mission abroad after obtaining attestation from their country’s State Department or Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This ensures the legal validity and authenticity of the document.

Designating the Pakistan Foreign Mission

Executor(s) carry the responsibility of selecting their designated Pakistan Foreign Mission (Embassy/High Commission/Consulate) during the Digital Power of Attorney application process. Failure to do so may lead to misrouting the application, potentially resulting in rejection. Attention to detail in this step is crucial for a smooth and successful application process.

A Forward-Looking Approach

NADRA’s digital Power of Attorney service represents a forward-looking approach to meeting the evolving needs of overseas Pakistanis. By leveraging technology, the initiative not only simplifies the legal process but also ensures that it is more accessible. The move underscores NADRA’s commitment to embracing innovation to better serve the Pakistani diaspora, allowing them to navigate legal matters with ease, regardless of their geographical location.

In conclusion, the introduction of the digital Power of Attorney service is a significant milestone in the efforts to enhance the experience of overseas Pakistanis in legal matters. It reflects a commitment to efficiency, accessibility, and adaptability, marking a positive stride towards a more connected and empowered global Pakistani community.

Sapphire Builders & Associates (SBAA) extends its appreciation to NADRA for the groundbreaking initiative in digitizing the Power of Attorney process for overseas Pakistanis. This user-friendly digital service is a testament to NADRA’s commitment to simplifying legal procedures and enhancing accessibility for our fellow countrymen residing abroad.
